Welcome to the oifficial website of the parish of Saint Philip The Apostle, Mountview. It is with great pleasure and excitement that we launch our new website after what seems like a long time in the making. It is hoped that through this website the people of Mountview can enter a new level of communication with each other and that our many parish groups may gain a new and stronger voice.

Our aim is to portray through the use of our website, the vibrancy that we all feel as parishioners. This is after all, your new information tool, a means of communicating and gathering on line. Please use the website and keep it alive. Also feel free to forward any comments or suggestions, as your participation is important.
Finally, a note of thanks to all who were involved in funding and creating our new on line look.

People really do make the difference!!

2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the Young Scientist Competition but it was also a very special year for the pupils of Mrs Halligan's 5th Class in St. Philips SNS Mountview. They were the first pupils ever to represent their school in the Primary Science Fair of the BT Young Scientist Exhibition. Their project was entitled "Why are some of our classrooms colder than others?"

Once they were informed that their project had been accepted they set out to work gathering information, monitoring tempratures and analysing results. They worked enthusiastically as scientists, creating "fair test" sitautions before eventually coming to the conclusion that orientation was the key factor in determining the coldest and warmest classrooms. Then, following a Lego appeal in the community, they built a scaled model of the school to display their results.

Thursday January 9th saw them proudly travelling to the R.D.S. where their eagerness to engage with the public and explain the scientific process involved in their project was a sheer delight to witness and proof, if ever any was needed, of the enormous value of such competitions.

On arriving back at the School, all the talk was of experiments and bubbles and one very particular robot called "Titan". These 5th Class pupils were already discussing ideas of next year's entry. Science was now fun and had become accessible to all.
